If you haven't seen Arcane yet, let me tell you one thing: stop everything you're doing and go watch this gem right now! The series, based on the League of Legends universe, is an emotional rollercoaster, full of explosions of color, action and, of course, heartbreaking conflicts. And we can't ignore: Arcane is also a milestone for its lesbian representation.
Vi and Caitlyn. What can we say about these two who didn't even need an explicit "I love you" to win our hearts? Their relationship is built with affection, exchange of glances, trust and that "we know what's going on here" vibe. Riot put on a show, the series made it very clear: there's no one else! Now everyone is dying to see our couple or the wonderful Jinx, in her various versions, always delivering SO MUCH entertainment!
Furthermore, Arcane is a critical and audience success, praised for its mature narrative, impeccable soundtrack and unique visual style. It's no wonder it won the Emmy for Best Animated Program! However, for the most hardcore League of Legends fans, there are some differences in the story. For example, the relationship between Jinx and Vi in the game is more implicit, while the series delves deeper into the drama between the sisters in a captivating way. We also see characters like Jayce and Viktor in more humanized contexts, which contrasts with their purely epic versions in the game's lore . And, yes, there are a few more different details here and there, but NOTHING that takes away from the merit of this AMAZING series!
Now, you've finished Arcane and are feeling empty, not knowing what to watch? Take a deep breath, because besides Blue-Eyed Samurai (which deserves a post all to itself in the future), I have two more recommendations that can save your post- Arcane .
1. Primal
Created by Genndy Tartakovsky ( Samurai Jack ), Primal is a dialogue-free masterpiece that mixes brutality and emotion. The series follows the unlikely friendship between a caveman and a dinosaur in a wild world. It doesn't have a lesbian romance, but it's full of emotional and visual intensity, perfect for those who loved the visceral impact of Arcane .
2. Dota: Dragon's Blood
Another Netflix animated series based on a video game, Dota: Dragon's Blood is packed with action, magic, and intrigue. While it's less personal and more epic than Arcane , it features compelling characters and stunning visuals. If you liked how Arcane expanded the world of League , you'll enjoy how this series explores the universe of Dota 2 .
I'm Ingrid Gomm and I suggest you take advantage of these recommendations, because one thing is certain: the wait for the second season of Arcane won't be easy, but with good marathons, you can hold on! 😉
